Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), made a strong statement during her Senate screening on Wednesday, where she vowed to ensure that all pre-election cases would conclude at the Court of Appeal.
This declaration is viewed as a significant step towards safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process and curbing potential manipulation.
Justice Kekere-Ekun, known for her firm stance on judicial matters, emphasized, “All pre-election matters will terminate at the Court of Appeal. I have zero tolerance for corruption.” Her position is seen as vital given Nigeria’s history of electoral disputes and the importance of maintaining a fair and impartial judiciary.
Following her screening, the Senate confirmed her appointment as the substantive CJN, following President Bola Tinubu’s formal request for her confirmation in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday. This confirmation solidifies her role at the helm of the judiciary.
