The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has approved the reconstitution of a Caretaker Committee for the National Sports Association for Judiciary (NASAJ) following an internal leadership crisis within the organization.
The committee is headed by Mohammed Suleiman, Head of Audit and Investigation at the Supreme Court. Other notable members include Ibrahim Isah Awak of the Federal High Court, Alkali Abraham Ahmed from the National Judicial Institute, Aliyu Mamuda, Abdulrafiu Masa (Federal Judicial Service Commission), Mathew Umaru (Court of Appeal), Solomon Isah (FCT High Court), and Garba Sudan (Supreme Court).
The restructuring follows a leadership breakdown that resulted in the CJN Cup being held simultaneously in two locations—Delta and Minna—highlighting the divisions within NASAJ’s leadership.
During the committee’s inauguration, Deputy Chief Registrar I of the Supreme Court, Reuben Jego, urged the committee to swiftly resolve the disputes within NASAJ and oversee fresh elections to restore a unified leadership.
Jego also stressed the importance of realigning NASAJ with its founding mission: promoting physical fitness, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and fostering unity among judicial staff.
