The Nigeria Integrity Watch (NIW), a coalition of civil society organizations, has alleged a sinister plot to blackmail Senate President Godswill Akpabio through fabricated sexual harassment accusations. According to NIW, a group of women is being housed in a luxurious hotel in Lagos State, where they are reportedly being coached to level false allegations against Akpabio.
In a statement issued by NIW’s National Convener, Dr. John Samuel Nangi, the group described the scheme as a “campaign of calumny” orchestrated by a powerful appointee in the All Progressives Congress (APC) government and a disgraced senator. The statement claims that the women are being guided by individuals identified as blackmailers to fabricate damaging narratives aimed at tarnishing Akpabio’s reputation.
NIW further alleged that a network of online content creators, social media influencers, and bloggers has been mobilized to spread misinformation and propaganda to amplify the plot. “This orchestrated effort is designed to undermine not only Akpabio’s reputation but also the credibility of the Senate and the entire Nigerian government,” the statement read.
Dr. Nangi called on security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to monitor the situation closely and take decisive action to prevent any attempts to destabilize Nigeria’s leadership through falsehoods. “This is not just an attack on an individual; it is an attack on our democracy,” Nangi emphasized, urging unity to protect the nation’s democratic institutions from deceit and manipulation.
