Christian Elders Tell Tinubu To Review Fuel Price, Electricity Tariff Downwards

The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider reducing the pump price of petrol and electricity tariffs in order to ease the widespread hardship and hunger currently affecting Nigerians. Samuel Danjuma Dani, chairman of the NCEF and former Deputy Governor of Taraba State, made the appeal in a statement following a meeting of the Christian elders to discuss the state of the nation.

The forum highlighted that the increased fuel prices have led to a sharp rise in the cost of food and essential commodities, exacerbating the challenges faced by the public. Dani also pointed out that recent protests by Nigerians were sparked by the economic strain caused by higher fuel prices.

In addition to calling for price reductions, the NCEF emphasized the need for improved security, particularly in rural areas, so that farmers can continue agricultural activities to ensure food security. The Christian Elders believe that lower fuel and electricity costs would boost productivity, create jobs, and alleviate the financial burdens on the growing youth population in Nigeria.

The forum said, “We call for improved security, particularly for farmers in rural areas who are crucial to the nation’s food security. While we recognize the Government’s efforts in this regard, we urge for more immediate and effective actions.”

The forum firmly believed that the straightforward recommendations would significantly alleviate the current hardships experienced by many Nigerians.
