Budget Implementation: Reps Acknowledge Finance Officials’ Assurances of Improved Performance

The House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations has expressed concern over the pace of budget implementation but noted assurances from key finance officials of improved performance before the end of the year.

After a closed-door session with the Ministers of Finance, Budget and National Planning, the Debt Management Office, and the Accountant-General of the Federation in Abuja, the committee chairman, Hon Abubakar Bichi confirmed that discussions focused on the 2024 and 2025 appropriation acts.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, reported that implementation of the 2024 budget currently stands at about 80 percent, with the National Assembly extending its lifespan until December. He explained that priority projects include grassroots infrastructure such as roads and irrigation.

Budget and National Planning Minister Sen. Abubakar Bagudu stressed the strong working relationship between the executive and legislature and said reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are producing results. Both ministers reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to full and effective implementation of the 2024 and 2025 budgets.
