United States Supreme Court
The Presidential Commission on the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday released a draft compilation of pros and cons on proposals affecting the structure, work and membership of the nation’s highest court while urging “close attention and consideration” of suggestions for reforming the U.S. Senate confirmation process.
“The highly polarized politics of the current era threatens to transform this already high-stakes process into one that is badly broken,” the commission said in its draft discussion papers. “The commission did not attempt to identify the sources of polarization or come to conclusions about any role the court may have played in it. These, too, are matters about which individual commission members disagree.”
