The former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was called for to be arrested, but the Center for Justice and Peace, or CJP, has now retracted his comment.
Dr. Stephen Okparaibe, the Center’s director general, claimed during a news conference in Abuja that a few desperate politicians had taken on the identity of the organization and been making remarks on its behalf.
Okpara called the people “paid agents” who are determined to spread confusion.
The individual’s effort to compromise the group’s “integrity and independence will not be tolerated,” he said.
He claims that the alleged statement, which states that CJP would not advocate for the arrest of someone who has willingly turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is in conflict with the group’s basic beliefs.
“We are shocked that desperate politicians would sponsor criminals to impersonate our organization and release malicious statements.
“This blatant attempt to undermine our integrity and independence will not be tolerated.
“If the EFCC, which declared Mr. Bello wanted, had him for over four hours and refused to arrest and prosecute him, how could we?” he said.
