Appeal Court Disqualifies LP Candidate in Ondo

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, on Wednesday, disqualified the Labour Party governorship candidate in Ondo State, Olusola Ebiseni.

The appellate court delivered the verdict in an appeal filed some members of LP on the nomination of Ebiseni as the party’s candidate in the November 16 election.

They were challenging a court ruling which upheld Ebiseni’s emergence as the LP candidate in Ondo.

The LP has been rocked by crisis just three days to the election with Ebiseni, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and a member of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Dr. Ayodele Olorunfemi, laying claim to the party’s ticket in the poll.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in September ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Ebiseni as LP candidate in the election.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, the aggrieved parties approached the appeal court to set it aside.

In Thursday’s proceeding, a three-member panel of the appellate court led by Justice Hamma Barka held that the appeal was meritorious.

Justice Adebukola Banjoko, who read the judgement, said the Certified True Copy of the judgement would be made available to the parties in the appeal as soon as possible.
