The magistrate court in Sagamu, Ogun state, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, driver of the crashed Lexus sport utility vehicle (SUV) that was conveying Anthony Joshua, to April 16, 2026.
At the resumption of the hearing on Tuesday, R.D. Kadiri, the counsel who represented the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), said his team received fresh information this morning that would be incorporated into the case.
Kadiri sought additional time to include the new details in the case.
However, Abiodun Olalekan, counsel to the driver, raised concerns over “the delay tactics” being deployed by the prosecutor, adding that time is being wasted.

Olufunmilayo Somefun, judge of the magistrate court, subsequently adjourned the case to April 16, 2026.
MULTIPLE ADJOURNMENTS
This is not the first time the court has adjourned the case based on the request of the prosecutor.
At the previous adjourned date on February 25, Kadiri requested more time to garner evidence and witnesses for the case.
The prosecutor had said the case was forwarded to the Ogun DPP by the police.
The case was then adjourned to Tuesday, March 17.
During court proceedings on January 20, Richard Nigiwe, counsel to the police, asked the court for an adjournment of the case to allow the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and present it to the attorney-general of the state through the DPP for legal advice.
The case was then adjourned until February 25.
BACKGROUND
On December 29, 2025, the car conveying Joshua, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, and two of his close associates, crashed into a stationary truck around the Sinoma area, near Sagamu, Ogun state.
The renowned boxer and three other passengers were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu when the SUV collided with a stationary truck.
While Joshua survived the accident with minor injuries, his close associates — Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami — died.
Ghami was Joshua’s longtime friend and his strength and conditioning coach, while Latif served as his personal trainer.
On December 31, 2025, the boxer was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after treatment for the injuries sustained.
