Alleged ‘vote of no confidence’ in Senator Karimi false, misleading, says Report

Investigations into claims that ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State passed a vote of no confidence in Senator Sunday Karimi have revealed the report to be false and misleading.

Multiple party sources in the area denied that any such meeting took place, describing the development as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and create friction between the senator and the Kogi State Government.

According to the sources, there is no evidence that the Forum of APC Ward Chairmen in Yagba West convened any meeting or authorised the issuance of a communiqué expressing dissatisfaction with the lawmaker.

They further clarified that the photograph circulated alongside the report was not recent but taken during the inauguration of newly elected ward chairmen about three weeks ago. The event, they noted, held at the APC secretariat in Odo-Ere and has no connection to the claims being made.

A party chieftain in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that findings confirmed that no meeting was held and no vote of no confidence was passed on Senator Karimi.

“To the best of my knowledge, there was no such meeting or communiqué. The image attached to the purported report was taken during the inauguration of ward executives at the Yagba West APC secretariat in Odo-Ere,” the source said.

The chieftain alleged that the report was orchestrated by disgruntled elements within the party seeking to create the impression that the state leadership was behind the move, thereby straining relations between the senator and the administration of Governor Usman Ododo.

He attributed the development to internal party tensions following recent changes to the electoral framework, which, he said, had altered the role of delegates in candidate selection.

Describing the report as a product of “desperation and political mischief,” the source added that residents of Yagba West had continued to express support for Senator Karimi, citing his representation at the National Assembly.
