Alleged Terrorism: Igbo Group Faults Kanu Trial, Demands Immediate Release

An Igbo Socio-Cultural Group, based in the United States, Rising Sun Foundation, has described the continuous detention and trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has a gross violation of International Law and Justice.

Recall that Knau, who recently sacked his legal Team, had put in for a no case submission before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The Group in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday and signed by Rev. Fr. Augustine Odimmegwa and Mazi Maxwell Dede, stated that there was no valid charge for the detention and trial of Nnamdi Kanu adding that, the court equal lack jurisdiction for the trial.

It added that court in Nigeria has no right to try him, as he was charged under a dead law, the old Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013 that no longer exists.

The Socio-Cultural Group added that the Court of Appeal has discharged Kanu but yet, still being kept in the DSS Custody with disregard to the court ruling noting that, the Supreme Court has equally abandoned its own principle of finality.

It however, demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu and should not be in detention for an extra day stressing that, his continuous trial and detention amounts to gross violation of the International law.
