The University of Calabar has taken action in response to allegations of highhandedness and sexual harassment of female students against Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the former Dean of its Faculty of Law, who was suspended on August 17. Dr. Rose Ugbe has been appointed as his replacement.
Dr. Rose Ugbe will assume the role of Acting Dean for the Faculty of Law, as announced in a statement by the University’s Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe. Her appointment officially began on Tuesday, August 22, and will continue until a permanent Dean is elected for the faculty.
In her capacity as Acting Dean, Dr. Ugbe will undertake the responsibilities and duties associated with the position. This includes overseeing the academic programs within the faculty, fostering a positive relationship among both staff and students, and creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Additionally, Dr. Ugbe will provide support to faculty members in their research endeavors and collaborate with the University administration to realize the institution’s vision.
The appointment of Dr. Ugbe as Acting Dean has received approval from Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar. In response to the allegations against Prof. Cyril Ndifon, a seven-member panel has been established to investigate the matter.
