Alleged Fraud: EFCC Arraigns Nigeria Peace Corps Chief

The National Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akoh, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over an alleged N60 million fraud.

Akoh appeared in court alongside the Corps’ Director of Finance, Omolala Aminat Ahmed, before Justice H. B. Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Abuja.

According to an EFCC statement on Friday morning, the pair were arraigned on a two-count charge of alleged criminal misappropriation of funds allocated to the Corps. Both Akoh and Ahmed pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The first charge read: “That you, Dickson Akoh and Omolala Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, agreed among yourselves to commit an illegal act, to wit, criminal misappropriation, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code Laws of the FCT.”

The second charge stated: “That you, Dickson Akoh and Omolala Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, agreed among yourselves and dishonestly converted to your personal use the sum of N46,000,000 (forty-six million naira) out of N60,000,000 (sixty million naira) meant for the execution of a contract for the supply of badges.”

EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale stated that the prosecution, represented by counsel Khalid Sanusi, requested a trial date following the defendants’ pleas.

Justice Yusuf adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, and granted Akoh and Ahmed bail of N5 million each, with one credible surety in the same amount.

The sureties are required to be reputable and residents of Abuja.
