Aisha Ahmad, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been arrested by the Department of State Security Service (DSS) in connection with an alleged illegal acquisition of shares in Titan Bank (Union Bank) and Polaris Bank.
According to Peter Afunanya, the spokesman for the DSS, Ahmad is either in their custody or has been requested to be questioned, but he was unable to confirm or deny this on Sunday.
According to circulating rumors, Aisha is also being questioned on how Titan Bank raised $300 million to complete the acquisition of Union Bank in 2022.
Speaking about the situation, Afunanya said that any inquiry may result in the invitation of individuals to be questioned, and that invitations are extended in accordance with the law.
This is coming about two months after the secret service arrested Ahmad’s former boss at the CBN, Godwin Emefiele. He has been in the DSS custody since then.
