A Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated that Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to free detained musician Darlington Achakpo, aka Speed Darlington, within 48 hours.
Justice Musa Liman ordered that the controversial musician be charged in court as soon as possible or freed unconditionally on bail during his verdict on Monday.
The judge later adjourned the substantive case to January 6 for further hearing.
Speed Darlington’s attorney, Deji Adeyanju, announced the decision on social media after the musician’s other attorney, David Ihuoma, filed an ex-parte motion.
Adeyanju wrote, “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington aka has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail.”
Recall that Speed Darlington was arrested in Owerri, Imo State, last month after returning from the United States on charges of cyberbullying Grammy Award winner Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy.
