Following the House of Representatives’ resolution to investigate bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Joint Committees of the House have extended an invitation to the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service. In a letter dated 27th September 2024, the committee requested their presence, along with all officers involved in the allegations, on Monday the 30th.
The investigation stems from a viral voice conversation on social media involving Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse earlier this year. The voice recording suggested that Bobrisky allegedly paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to have money laundering charges dropped and spent time in a VIP facility rather than a standard prison cell.
The House Committee has also invited Bobrisky and Martins Otse, also known as Very Dark Man, the social media influencer who released the recording, to appear as part of the investigation.
