Alhassan Yahya Emerges New NUJ President

Alhassan Yahaya, the National Deputy President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has emerged as the new National President of the union.

He won the election with 436 votes, defeating Dele Atunbi, the outgoing National Treasurer, who secured 97 votes, and Garba Muhammad, who polled 39 votes.

A total of 602 delegates from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including the Federal Capital Territory, gathered in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, to elect the new leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

This new leadership will steer the affairs of the union for the next three years.

Yahaya’s victory marks a new chapter for the NUJ, and he is expected to lead the union in promoting the welfare of journalists and upholding the principles of good journalism.

Earlier Comrade Christopher Isiguzo, the outgoing National President of the NUJ, assured a smooth transition of power, stating that he would not interfere with the administration of the new leadership.
