The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has formally taken over the prosecution of an Ogun monarch, Oba Adedayo Shyllon, who is standing trial for allegedly cyberstalking and threatening the life of the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
The takeover followed an order of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, granted by Justice Abiodun Adeyemi.
A Certified True Copy of the order, dated September 24, 2025, showed that the decision was made upon receipt of a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, dated September 16, 2025, requesting to assume control of the case in line with Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Justice Adeyemi ruled:“That the Application of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation is granted in line with the provisions of Section 174 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
“That the case of the Commissioner of Police Vs. Adedayo Richard Shyllon: FHC/AB/79C/2025 be and is hereby taken over by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.”
The court further directed that copies of the order be served on the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Zone 2, Lagos), and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, for necessary action.
Lawyer’s arraignment in Imo court over criticism of Uzodimma stalled
Oba Shyllon, the Alagbado of Agbado in Ifo Local Government Area, is facing a two counts of cyberstalking and threat to life filed by the Ogun State Police Command.
The charges stemmed from a petition by the Alake, who alleged that the monarch was falsely reported online to have threatened to kill him.
While the paramount ruler petitioned the police, leading to the monarch’s arraignment, Oba Shyllon has consistently denied the allegations.
He claimed instead that he was a victim of malicious online publication and had earlier petitioned Zone II Police Command in Lagos against the publisher of the report.
He said his petition was still under investigation when he was invited by the Ogun State Police Command and subsequently charged to court.
Further hearing in the case has been fixed for October 29, 2025.
