The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to a justice system that delivers timely, efficient, and citizen‑focused outcomes.
Speaking at the launch of the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) in Abuja, Fagbemi also commissioned newly renovated facilities at the Ministry of Justice, including the staff clinic, sports centre, crèche, and canteen.
According to a statement by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Adviser to the President on Communication and Publicity in the Office of the Attorney General, the ECMS is a secure digital platform that enables the ministry to create, process, approve, store, and retrieve official documents electronically.
In his keynote address, Fagbemi described the initiative as a decisive break from the era of manual and unstructured record‑keeping:
– Efficiency: “By digitising correspondence, emails, and legal documents, we are dismantling bureaucratic bottlenecks that have historically slowed the wheels of justice.”
– Alignment: He noted that the project is anchored on Pillar Five of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25), and firmly situated within the Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Policy on Justice.
– Governance Reform: Beyond technology, the ECMS strengthens institutional memory, enhances decision‑making, secures records, and enforces accountability in workflow.
“Our goal is clear: to build a justice sector that is modern, efficient, and above all, citizen‑driven,” Fagbemi said.
The AGF emphasised that workplace modernisation and staff welfare remain priorities under his leadership, in line with reforms championed by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. He expressed gratitude to the Aig‑Imoukhuede Foundation, Prof. Koyinsola Ajayi (SAN) of Olaniwun Ajayi & Co., ministry staff, sister ministries, and partners for their support.
In her welcome remarks, Solicitor‑General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Beatrice Jeddy‑Agba, highlighted the ministry’s achievements within just eight weeks:
– Digitisation: 6,241 physical files, comprising 331,297 pages, scanned and uploaded onto the 1Gov ECMS.
– Capacity Building: 100% official email coverage for staff, multiple tiers of ECM and digital skills training, and departmental champions activated.
– Standardisation: Clear SOPs and workflows established for document tracking and approvals.
She noted that the ECMS “go‑live” marks the end of inefficiencies caused by paper‑heavy processes, ushering in a culture of transparency, speed, and accountability.
