Adelugba Elected New Ekiti Assembly Speaker

Gboyega Aribisogan, Speaker of the Ekiti State Assembly, has been impeached and placed on indefinite leave.

The newly elected speaker is Olubunmi Adelugba, the preferred candidate of Kayode Fayemi, the state’s new governor.The Speaker was impeached by 17 of the 25 members, who then chose a new speaker.

After the death of the former speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, members became entangled in a scandal, leading to the sealing of the Assembly Complex.

66-year-old Afuye died at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital on October 19 after suffering cardiac arrest.

A month after his demise, the parliament held an election and Aribisogan, who is the representative of Ikole 1 Constituency in the Assembly and a two-term lawmaker, emerged after defeating Adelugba.

Aribisogan had claimed Fayemi is behing the plot to impeach him so as to have Adelugba as Speaker.
