A former Attorney General in Kogi State, Ben Ikani, has described the proposed Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2026 Bill as a crucial step toward strengthening Nigeria’s justice system.
Ikani while fielding questions from newsmen commended the President for extending his reform agenda to the judiciary, noting that the move demonstrates a commitment to improving the administration of criminal justice and aligning the country’s legal framework with global best practices.
The existing ACJA, according to Ikani, has been in operation for eleven years, providing ample time to identify gaps and areas requiring improvement.
He said, “The ACJA has been in existence for 11 years, giving us enough time to identify the areas that need improvement. I commend the President for extending his reform agenda to the judiciary and the administration of criminal justice,”
While stressing further, he expressed confidence that reforming the justice system would help boost investment, adding: “the credibility and efficiency of a country’s legal system remain key considerations for foreign and local investors.”
Ikani added that aligning Nigeria’s criminal justice system with international best practices would not only enhance the rule of law but also improve the nation’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
