The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected the official results of the recent governorship election, describing them as “daylight robbery.”
During a press briefing at the PDP state secretariat in Yola, the party called on its members to pursue legal recourse in response to what they claim was a severely compromised election process.
Led by the state PDP Chairman, Barrister Ahmed Shehu, the party executives voiced their support for the position taken by the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the party’s governors. Shehu reiterated that the Adamawa PDP aligns with the results presented by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who chaired the Edo PDP National Campaign Council, asserting that the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, had won the majority of the votes.
The party emphasized the importance of challenging the official results to restore what they consider to be the true will of the people.
“We strongly condemn the desperation displayed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), which resorted to violent manipulation and other extreme tactics to undermine the will of the people of Edo,” Shehu said.
He added that the “daylight political robbery by the APC” is a threat to Nigeria’s democracy and may in particular worsen growing political apathy.
“We wish to state that we are solidly behind our national party leadership taking any legal measure to ensure that the stolen mandate in Edo State is retrieved,” he said.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo winner of the Saturday’s Edo State Governorship Election.
Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, officially announced Okpebholo as the winner of the election.
