Edo Correctional Service Partners EDOHIS for Free Inmate Healthcare

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Edo State has launched a partnership with the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (EDOHIS) to provide free secondary and specialized medical care for inmates. This initiative, announced in a statement on Tuesday by the NCoS Edo Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Aminu Suleman, is aimed at addressing the medical needs of inmates beyond basic healthcare.

Controller of Corrections in Edo State, Mrs. Philomena Emehinola, expressed gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki and the EDOHIS team for their support. She emphasized that the program would enhance the justice system by improving inmate reformation and rehabilitation through better healthcare services.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service is committed to ensuring the security and well-being of inmates, and this partnership will guarantee humane custody and contribute to their rehabilitation,” Emehinola stated.

The health scheme is already in effect, with several inmates having received advanced medical care through the program.

“We urge other agencies and individuals to partner with us in achieving safe and secure custody, justice, and the reintegration of inmates into society,” she concluded.
