Protest: We will step in If Looting, Destruction Continue – Chief of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa has issued a stern warning concerning ongoing protests, emphasizing that the military will intervene if the situation escalates into looting and destruction. In a recent statement, he expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence and vandalism associated with the demonstrations. While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, he stressed that law and order must be maintained to protect citizens and property.

Gen. Christopher Musa highlighted that the military’s primary duty is to ensure national security and maintain peace. He assured the public that the armed forces are prepared to support civil authorities in restoring order if necessary. This includes taking decisive action against any elements that seek to exploit the protests for unlawful purposes, such as theft or property damage.

He also urged protesters to remain peaceful and for organizers to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

We want the support of all Nigerians, from the FG to the State and Local Governments, let us avoid anything that will bring us mayhem within our communities. Yesterday, we had seen the level of destruction that has been carried out and so you can imagine if this continues for so long, the Armed Forces and the entire military security agencies will not stand by and see that to continue.

So we want to warn those that are recalcitrant that we will not fold our hands and see our country destroyed. We will take action and the action we will take, we will take it professionally. Anyone that is caught will be taken to the Court to be dealt with.

And again for the media, I want to also appeal because I noticed throughout yesterday all the stations were hooked up to the occasion. This is not an election thing, don’t give them that coverage for them to feel… Because there are some of them who are looking for just moments to be on the screen.
