A 2027 governorship hopeful on the platform of the Accord Party in Oyo State, Hon. Olakunle Busari, has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, seeking an order to remove Mr Oriyomi Hamzat as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Busari, through his counsel, Tunji Ogunrinde, SAN, filed the suit marked FHC/IB/CS/97/26, asking the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Mr Oriyomi Hamzat’s name from its portal and replace it with his as the authentic governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State.
In the suit, Busari alleged that Hamzat’s name was clandestinely uploaded to INEC’s portal by a section of the Accord Party leadership despite his alleged failure to participate in the party’s direct governorship primary held on May 26, 2026.
He claimed that he polled the highest number of votes in the direct primary organised by the party and, therefore, asked the court to compel INEC to accept, recognise and publish his name as the winner of the primary.
Busari is also seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognising, accepting or giving effect to Hamzat’s nomination and sponsorship as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State.
He further asked the court to restrain Hamzat from parading himself as the bona fide and authentic governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 election.
The suit seeks judicial determination of the dispute over the party’s nomination and the candidate whose name should be recognised by INEC for the Oyo State governorship election.
