The Chairmen of the seven branches of the Nigerian Bar Association in Lagos State, (Lagos, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, and Surulere) have jointly addressed a letter to the Chief Judge of the Lagos State High Court, Honourable Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, outlining vital concerns and requests to enhance justice delivery in the state.
The letter dated 18th September 2024 was received by the office of the Chief Judge of Lagos State on 20th September 2024.
The key requests include:
1. Reconstruction and renovation of the Lagos Division of the High Court and Lagos Magisterial District.
2. Improved remuneration and working conditions for judicial officers.
3. Addressing dereliction of duty, including late judgment delivery and disrespect towards counsel.
4. Combating unqualified solicitors around courthouses.
5. Establishing administrative offices for judgment execution in Ikorodu and Eti-Osa Divisions.
6. Expanding courtrooms and staffing in Eti-Osa Division.
7. Creating a Probate Registry and Multi-Door Courthouse in Eti-Osa Division.
8. Introducing concurrent manual filing to address e-filing system challenges.
9. Improving power supply in court divisions.
We are confident that the Chief Judge, who has already initiated commendable reforms, will thoroughly consider these petitions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Lagos State Judiciary.
