The Nigerian Bar Association President, Mr Y.C Maikayau, SAN, OON is inviting all members to the State of the Nation Dialogue, a one-day event which is designed to, among other things, generate discussions that will provide Nigerians with the information to guide them in making the right choices towards the forthcoming general elections.

Dear Learned Seniors and Colleagues,
As Nigeria moves towards the 2023 General Elections scheduled for the 25 February and 11 March 2023, Nigerians look forward to returning to the polls to elect a new set of leaders for the country with mixed feelings. While we have, since the return to democracy in 1999, experienced significant growth and development in a system where rights and freedoms are better protected and economic growth is supported, these 23 years of uninterrupted democratic rule have not been without difficulties and uncertainties. Nonetheless, Nigerians have continued to rise to their civic duties amidst concerns of violence and insecurity by returning to the polls every four years, to elect new leaders with the constant hope to improve general lot.
For the 2023 elections, there is no doubt that the stakes are much higher this time. With citizens’ concern about insecurity, economic uncertainty and political instability, most Nigerians have taken more than a passing interest in the electoral process and outcomes. It has, therefore, become expedient to continuously engage government at all levels to, among other things, hold the current and past leaderships to account, generate discussions that will provide Nigerians with sufficient information to guide them in making their choice of leaders and to ensure that no one seeking elective office leverages on the failures of this or any administration, to gain the sympathy of Nigerians.
In light of the foregoing, and in fulfilment of the commitment made to the legal profession and Nigerians, I have convened The Nigerian Bar Association State of the Nation Dialogue; a one-day event which is designed to, among other things, generate discussions that will provide Nigerians with the information to guide them in making the right choices. This engagement with the Nigerian Bar Association is one that the whole nation needs, as it is expected to afford Nigerians the opportunity to better understand the candidates’ Agenda particularly on the three focus areas of the Dialogue: Security – Economy – Administration of Justice. We also believe that Nigerians will benefit greatly from any perspectives that the legal community is able to add to the conversation.
I, therefore, invite you, my Learned Seniors and Colleagues, to attend and the NBA State of the Nation Dialogue, scheduled to hold as follows:
