Two employees of Justrite Super Store, Kolade Oluwasegun (36) and Yinka Gbadebo (32), were arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly taking items from the store without authorization.
The incident occurred on May 23, 2023, at the Super Store situated in Jakande Estate, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where both suspects were employed.
The Police reported that the security guards caught the suspects separately with the items, and subsequently handed them over to the Police at Ejigbo Division for further investigation and prosecution.
The store’s management calculated the value of the missing items, alleging that Oluwasegun stole items worth N2.26 million, while Gbadebo stole items worth N3.332 million before their apprehension.
During interrogation, the suspects denied stealing items of such high value but admitted to taking their personal needs from the store before being caught and handed over to the Police.
The Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offense, which could lead to several years of imprisonment if found guilty.
However, during their arraignment, both suspects pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, requested the Court to fix a date for the hearing since the defendants pleaded not guilty, allowing the Police to present evidence to prove the alleged offense.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties each providing the same amount. The sureties must demonstrate evidence of a legitimate source of income and tax payment.
The defendants were remanded in custody at the Kirikiri town Correctional Centre in Lagos until they fulfill their bail conditions. The court adjourned the matter till August 29, 2023, for mention.
